Honda presented the next generation of the Honda Civic Si at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week, and even though the model unveiled was only a prototype, it gives a very good idea of ??what the Next Honda Civic Si is all about. It will be equipped with several new technologies that will add a lot of spice to its driving.

A sportier design for the all-new Honda Civic Si

"With the new Honda Civic Si, we're injecting even more sporty goodness into our 10th-generation Civic lineup," said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of Honda.  "This will be, hands down, the fastest, best-handling Si we've ever offered to our customers."

Let's start with looking at design. The concept unveiled in Los Angeles was equipped with 19-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped with high-performance tires, an aerodynamic package from Honda Factory Performance (HFP), a centrally located polygonal exhaust, and a large rear spoiler that immediately reminds us that we are dealing with a performance car.

A turbo engine for the new Honda Civic Si

In terms of performance, the Honda Civic Si will be powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. Power numbers were not announced at the unveiling of the new performance Civic. That said, the current Civic Si offers 205 horsepower, and rumors are swirling that the next Civic Si will feature 230 horsepower.

A short-shifting six-speed manual transmission will be standard. On the technical side, the Civic Si features a new active suspension system as well as active steering, in addition to a limited slip differential. These technologies will ensure that the driver has complete control over the behavior of the Civic Si, and that power reaches the road as efficiently as possible.

Honda repeatedly reminded the public that the prototype presented in Los Angeles was very close to the production version of the Civic Si. So there is reason to believe that the cockpit will also be similar. The seats will display red stitching as well as stitched Si logos. The steering wheel, the transmission lever and the doors will also showcase this red stitching while the pedals will be made of aluminum. The dials will have a red background, as will the TFT screen.

The Honda Civic Si will join the 2017 Honda Civic sedan, Honda Civic Coupe and recently-introduced Honda Civic Hatchback later next year. To learn more about the 2017 Honda Civic, contact us today at Portland Street Honda in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia!
