The boom of compact crossovers is no longer just a trend, but more of a staple in the auto industry. And the Honda HR-V is part of that trend with its compact size and design, as well as Honda drivability and performance.

The latest generation of the Honda HR-V appeared a few short years ago, and since then its popularity has grown as the rise of the compact crossover has swept the market. However, it’s not just riding on the coattails of the compact crossover popularity, oh no. This practical little ride stands on its own four wheels when it comes to performance and practicality.

Equipped with a 1.8L i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine, the 2018 Honda HR-V produces 141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque, across the lineup. Opt for the entry-level LX and you’ll be rowing your own gears as standard, however a CVT is available. Move up in the trim levels to the EX or EX-L NAVI, and the CVT is standard and the only option. Honda’s Real Time AWD is also an option across the line, but FWD is only standard on the LX and EX, and not an option on the top-level EX-L NAVI.

Opt for the base LX with a CVT and FWD and you’ll see fuel consumption as low as 8.3L/100km in the city, and 6.9L/100km on the highway. The highest trim EX-L NAVI with CVT and AWD will see 8.9L/100km and 7.5L/100km.

Inside the 2018 Honda HR-V you’ll find a sizable 688 litres (657L in the AWD model) of cargo space behind the rear seats for all your cargo needs. Drop those rear seats down and that space increases to 1,665L (1,583L for the AWD EX and EX-LNAVI). For a vehicle that’s seemingly as compact as it is, that’s a lot of space for all your weekend adventures.

Interior design and layout is typical Honda, in all the best ways possible. Comfortable and intuitive, sitting inside the 2018 Honda HR-V is a good place to be. The entertainment system has features like Siri Eyes Free compatibility, SMS text message function, available XM satellite radio, as well as two USB ports.
